Yusheng Youling Seele in v8.9: Team Building, Astral Ring Coverage, and Pull Math

The v8.9 patch drops on May 28, and the headline pull is a brand-new S-rank Seele Vollerei battlesuit going by the codename Yusheng Youling. She is a Stardust-trait Lightning DPS, but the wrinkle that turns this banner from "nice waifu" into "actually pull her" is that an S2 copy lets you bulldoze 100% of Quantum-weather Abyss cycles despite being labeled a Lightning carry. That is a weird, hybrid pitch, and it changes how you should evaluate the rate-up depending on whether your account already has Silverwing: N-EX sitting at home.

Who Yusheng Youling Actually Is on the Roster

Yusheng Youling is the v8.9 S-rank for Seele. On paper she reads like a standard Stardust Lightning carry, which would already put her in a niche slot, but the new captain interaction with the previous Bronya battlesuit, Silverwing: N-EX, is what gives her real weight. Silverwing: N-EX is the official English name of the S-rank BIO-type battlesuit for grown-up Bronya, and equipping her with the Divine Key Blue Thunder Shuttle EX19 or its PRI-ARM Blue Thunder Shuttle: Protocol One activates Astral Ring Specialization: World Star. That alone tells you why every Yusheng Youling team in this guide is going to lean on Silverwing.

There is also the question of where she sits in the Astral Ring system in general. When a battlesuit with an Astral Ring is assigned as leader, the team activates the Astral Ring system, all Astral Ring battlesuits have one main specialization, and there are currently four known specializations: Rite of Oblivion, World Star, Wheel of Destiny, and Law of Ascension. Yusheng Youling supports three of those four branches, which is the broadest coverage we have seen from a single support-leaning DPS in Part 2 so far. Skip ahead a section if you want the per-branch breakdown; the short version is World Star and Wheel of Destiny benefit fully, while Law of Ascension gets her without elemental penetration.

The character grades out around 85 out of 100 on the creator's scale, which is meant to signal "definitely strong, but the kit's numbers feel deliberately conservative rather than blowout-tier." She is not a generational ceiling-raiser; she is a clean, flexible piece that finally gives the Stardust ecosystem a real Lightning anchor while also slotting into older Astral Ring teams.

Team Comps That Actually Make Sense

Seele team composition UI

The default Stardust-weather team is Yusheng Youling, Silverwing: N-EX, and an Elysia battlesuit in the third slot. If you missed Silverwing on the previous banner you are in a rough spot, because the captain-skill loop assumes her presence. The cleanest fallback if you do not own Silverwing is a triple Stardust-carry line: Yusheng Youling, Elysia, plus a Stardust Kiana battlesuit. It will not beat the Silverwing version but it does clear.

For regular Stardust-trait Lightning Abyss cycles and even some Quantum Lightning cycles, the bonded pair is Yusheng Youling plus Silverwing: N-EX, with the third slot reserved for any battlesuit carrying a Realm Resonance attribute. The creator specifically calls out that an older Seele battlesuit fits there too, since older Seeles tend to bring the resonance line. That structure is essentially a 1-1-0 build, meaning one carry, one dedicated support, zero pure healers, and it leans heavily on the captain buff doing both offensive scaling and survivability.

Weather / Cycle Carry Anchor Flex
Stardust-trait Yusheng Youling Silverwing: N-EX Elysia
Stardust (no Silverwing) Yusheng Youling Elysia Stardust Kiana
Stardust Lightning Abyss Yusheng Youling Silverwing: N-EX Realm Resonance unit
Quantum Lightning Abyss Yusheng Youling Silverwing: N-EX Realm Resonance unit

A note on the Quantum weather row: Quantum weather in the Superstring Dimension and Abyss gives a Quantum bonus damage, with weathers buffing matching-trait valkyries and debuffing opposing ones, and the buffs are numerically large across the 26 weathers total. Lightning normally gets debuffed under a Quantum weather, but Yusheng Youling's S2 ability is built to that interaction enough to still post a passing score on Quantum cycles. That is the entire reason "Lightning carry clears Quantum weather" is even on the table here.

Why Silverwing: N-EX Is Functionally Mandatory

Silverwing N-EX captain skill panel

Silverwing's live-server captain skill unlocks alongside this patch. When she is leading a team containing Yusheng Youling, she gives the team a 5% total damage taken increase on enemies, plus an extra 10% taken increase against ESP-attribute enemies. That layered amplification stacks on top of Yusheng Youling's own captain output when she is the leader, and it is the reason these two are described as "bound" rather than just "synergistic."

Yusheng Youling's own captain skill is the more aggressive of the two. As captain she gives herself a Primordial Penetration effect, raising all-element penetration, raising her own total damage output, raising Lightning-element damage specifically, and raising the total damage enemies take from the team. That is a four-line stacked buff sheet, and it is the offensive engine. Silverwing's captain skill is the defensive-side multiplier in the partnership; Yusheng Youling's is the offensive-side multiplier. Pick one to lead based on which cycle you are running.

To understand why penetration matters this much, look at the elemental math. Final Elemental Resistance equals one minus actual elemental damage divided by theoretical elemental damage, the element penetration gain equals damage after penetration over damage before penetration minus one, and element penetration damage equals penetration value divided by one minus environmental elemental resistance. Most Abyss minions have no base elemental resistance, and in the overall damage formula elemental resistance appears as one minus defense reduction over elemental resistance, with elemental penetration calculated separately from Fragile and Penetrating effects. Penetration is a multiplicative line, not an additive one, so even a modest penetration value compounds against environmental resistance numbers from weather effects. That is why Yusheng Youling's penetration buff is the headline number on her kit, and it is why the creator keeps comparing her partnership with Silverwing to other DPS-plus-mandatory-support pairings in the Part 2 lineup.

The takeaway: Silverwing is not a "recommended" pickup, she is the required pickup. If you skipped her on the prior cycle, accept that your Yusheng Youling teams will run a tier below ceiling until you grab her on a rerun.

Astral Ring Branch Coverage, Branch by Branch

Astral Ring specialization list

Yusheng Youling buffs three of the four current Astral Ring branches: World Star, Wheel of Destiny, and Law of Ascension. The catch is that she only provides elemental penetration in two of them. In Law of Ascension she still buffs the team but the penetration line is gone, which matters a lot for that branch's typical carries.

World Star is the cleanest fit. World Star teams use the character to buff the team during Stellar Surplus, and her Synergy Attack draws in nearby enemies and deals Lightning DMG. The two Quantum carries already in that branch ecosystem, plus Silverwing herself, all get full value. Even older Seele battlesuits sitting in World Star teams gain a measurable uplift, so if you have an extensive World Star roster the upgrade is immediate.

Wheel of Destiny is the second clean branch. The Wheel of Destiny branch is associated with Rita's new S-rank battlesuit Miss Espionage, an IMG-type Lightning DMG dealer. Rita's appearance rate is healthy in current Abyss rotations, so partnering her with Yusheng Youling is a natural fit. The older Wheel of Destiny carries are less interesting because their signature weather rotations rarely show up anymore, but the new Rita carry alone justifies the slot.

Law of Ascension is where things get speculative. Law of Ascension is the new branch, an IMG-type Physical DMG specialization used by Reign Solaris, a javelin wielder. Yusheng Youling supports the branch but without the elemental penetration line, the value drops sharply for Reign Solaris specifically. Where Law of Ascension does open up is Stardust Kiana running her own Stardust-shuttle cycle.

The Stardust Shell-Break Role in Law of Ascension

Law of Ascension speculation panel

The Stardust enemy ecosystem is the most awkward set of mobs in current Honkai. Eclipse: Stardust Sentry SD-type enemies die when HP or max HP reaches 0, when the Sentry's HP hits a threshold the dropped Stardust Remnants can no longer be collected, and the v7.0 Stardust enemy type has its own dedicated gameplay and mechanic overview. Stardust shells, like other Honkai Beast shells, are described as incredibly difficult to break, with enemies classified by destructive power classes. That difficulty curve is the entire reason a Stardust Lightning support is valuable in a Law of Ascension team running Stardust Kiana.

In that Kiana shuttle setup, Yusheng Youling functions as the shell-break enabler. She softens the Stardust enemies' shells, and once the shell is gone Kiana converts that opening into burst damage. The creator's read is that this opens the door to a major tenth-anniversary release potentially being either a Mei or Kiana battlesuit in the Law of Ascension branch, especially since that branch has not had a new character in a long stretch and there is an unrevealed Mei skill placeholder dating back to the spring patch. Mei's strongest narrative pairing in Astral Ring lore remains Kiana, so a hypothetical Kiana carry slot, that placeholder Mei skill, and Yusheng Youling as the third member is the speculative anniversary lineup floating around. None of it is confirmed; treat it as a reason to keep crystals in reserve, not a reason to skip Yusheng Youling now.

What is solid: the Law of Ascension support role is real, the shell-break utility is real, and even without elemental penetration she is the best Stardust-trait Lightning support available for that specific niche right now.

Hybrid Coverage: Lightning Carry, Quantum Cycle Insurance

The single most underrated line on Yusheng Youling's kit is the Quantum-weather coverage at S2. The standard problem in current Abyss is that if you do not own Pajama Theresa for Quantum Lightning weeks, you have to either play around the debuff or skip a tier of clears. With an S2 Yusheng Youling, that becomes a non-issue.

She is still labeled a Stardust Lightning carry. She still scales primarily off her Lightning lines. But the S2 unlock pushes her clear ceiling up enough on Quantum weather that she can post a passing-tier clear in place of a true Quantum specialist. That is not "competitive with the dedicated Quantum carry"; it is "you do not have to ghost your account for two weeks because you skipped a banner two patches ago."

Practical implications:

  • If you own Pajama Theresa: S0 Yusheng Youling is enough, the Quantum coverage is a bonus.
  • If you do not own Pajama Theresa and have no other Quantum coverage: S2 is worth chasing, because it replaces an entire carry slot for an entire weather rotation type.
  • If you do not care about Quantum cycles because you are not chasing red-tier Abyss: S0 with Silverwing is the whole package.

The reason this hybrid clears matters in v8.9 specifically is that the patch is heavy on Lightning content overall. The v8.9 schedule lists Battlesuit Expansion featuring Herrscher of Finality as a Fire DPS, with Miss Pink Elf and unconfirmed Spina Astera, Focus A with Nameless Key Kiana Kaslana stigma, Whisper Elysia, and unconfirmed Astral Rend Ragna, Focus B with Waltz Zhenyi, Basilisk Linnaeus, Crusher 19C Turgenev, and Obscuring Aslaug, ELF Supply with ELF Kiana ordered Ely, Dudu, Klein, plus Special Supplies including Herrscher of Origin Special Expansion, Mobius Special ADV Supply, Key of Clarity Raiden Mei stigma, Firepower Supply, and Schicksal Arsenal SoE: World Willows. Between those supplies and the standing weather rotations, a flexible Lightning-plus-Quantum coverage tool earns its slot every Abyss week.

The Pull Decision and the Crystal Budget

85 out of 100 final score

The patch opens with roughly 32,000 crystals available from the gate. If you already own Silverwing: N-EX from the previous cycle and you hit that opening crystal block, the pull is essentially mindless: pull until you have her, the kit slots in immediately, and you have nothing higher priority on the v8.9 chart.

There is also a cumulative spending event running in parallel. The v8.9 schedule additionally lists Select Supplies including EXPA Select and FOCA Select, outfits including Sushang Prosperity Bunny at 1680 B-chips first week and 1980 B-chips normal plus HoT H-Dusk Homu Treasury, and a Spending Event active alongside the above. Hitting the 30,000-cumulative-spending tier in that event reportedly lets you claim either a Xuanyuan Sword equivalent or a Weapon Resonance node for Yusheng Youling's signature, your choice between the two. Weapon Resonance is obtained by converting duplicate gacha weapons from the Part 1 era at the cost of Asterite, and tuning a weapon converts it into a Divine Key that can be displayed in the dorm, with Divine Keys providing small passive buffs scaled by key rank. Picking up an extra resonance node during the same banner you are already pulling on is a meaningful efficiency play; you are stacking rewards on a pull you were doing anyway.

Account state Pull priority Notes
Owns Silverwing, hits 32k crystal block High, pull freely Default green-light scenario
Owns Silverwing, no crystal block Conditional Pull S0 only, skip weapon
No Silverwing, has 32k Mid Get her, wait for Silverwing rerun
No Silverwing, no crystals Skip Banner is bad value without the anchor
Chasing red Abyss without Pajama Theresa High, target S2 Quantum-cycle insurance

The reason the 85-out-of-100 grade does not climb higher is that the kit's underlying numbers feel deliberately conservative across the test-server V1, V2, and V3 revisions, with V3 being significantly stronger than V2 but still tuned tight rather than blowout. That is not a complaint about the character's viability; her current strength is fine, the buffs are landing, and the team-building flexibility across three Astral Ring branches genuinely is unusual. It is a complaint that the headroom for her to ever scale into a top-three list is small unless future support pieces lift her artificially. For a release patch, that is acceptable. For a long-term ceiling chase, do not expect her to become the new tier-one anchor; expect her to be the new tier-two utility piece with very wide compatibility.
