Ragnarok M Classic Beginner Guide for Your First Week

Master your first week in Ragnarok M: Classic with this beginner guide covering Job 10 and 40 advances, the 5-level penalty rule, and combat attempt systems.

Starting your first week in Ragnarok M: Classic requires managing daily combat attempts, keeping target monster level gaps strictly within five levels, and reaching Job Level 10 and Job Level 40 for your class advancements. Because this version operates as a shop-free system where Zeny is the sole currency alongside built-in free Offline Battle, progressing efficiently comes down to picking the right grinding zones and optimizing early gear without wasting combat quotas.

Core Mechanics: Combat Attempts and Offline Battle

Progression in Ragnarok M: Classic differs fundamentally from older releases like Ragnarok M: Eternal Love. Instead of a 300-minute stamina clock, this version relies on a combat attempt mechanic.

Daily combat routines scale from 3,500 to 10,000 attempts for monster kills, according to OSLink's leveling guide. Unused combat attempts convert into rewards daily, meaning missed hours do not completely erase your character's growth.

Ragnarok M: Classic provides free Offline Battle, a lifetime Monthly Pass, and safe +15 refinement, with Zeny serving as the sole currency to acquire items through gameplay, as outlined on vgtopup's Ragnarok M: Classic page. Offline Battle eliminates the need to run the client overnight on a mobile device to finish daily kill allocations.

Class Progression: Job Levels 10 and 40

Every character begins as a Novice. Raising your Novice Job Level to 10 allows you to travel to Prontera and select your first class from the city's trainers.

Advancing to your second class requires reaching Job Level 40 on that initial class. Return to the Prontera trainers to complete this second promotion.

Keeping your Base Level and Job Level balanced during early grinding prevents stat roadblocks later. If your Base Level climbs too quickly while your Job Level lags behind, you delay high-impact active skills that directly accelerate your kill speed.

The 5-Level Rule and First-Week Grinding Zones

Hunting monsters more than five levels above or below your current level triggers an EXP reduction penalty reported by OSLink. Even if higher-level enemies offer higher raw experience values, staying inside that five-level bracket ensures full experience yield per kill.

ZoneLevel RangeMonster TargetsBase & Job EXP Rates
Prontera FieldsLevels 1–25Porings, Lunatics100–200 Base EXP per kill (OSLink)
Payon ForestLevels 25–40Spores, WillowsUp to 400 Base EXP and 200 Job EXP per kill (OSLink)
Glast Heim OutskirtsLevel 40+Feros~2,200 Base EXP per kill (OSLink)
Clock Tower 1FLevel 40+Punks, Black Witches~2,500 Base EXP per kill (OSLink)

For levels 1 through 25, clear through Prontera Fields on basic mobs until your first job unlocks. Transition to Payon Forest around level 25 to target Spores and Willows for balanced Base and Job EXP returns. Once you cross level 40 and secure your second job advancement, transfer your daily combat attempts to higher-density locations like Glast Heim Outskirts or Clock Tower 1F.

Equipment Optimization and Saint Gear

Clearing efficiency directly controls how fast you exhaust your daily 3,500 to 10,000 combat attempts. Equipping Saint equipment provides a 30% boost to EXP gains, making it a priority setup once you reach mid-game around level 40 (OSLink).

Refining weapons accelerates clear times against individual mobs. Because the Classic ruleset uses safe +15 refinement, upgrading gear avoids the destructive downgrade risks found in older titles. All equipment acquisition and refinement paths rely on Ragnarok M: Classic Zeny earned through gameplay.

Structured First-Week Routine

Following a set sequence across your first seven days prevents wasted combat attempts:

  1. Days 1–2: Novice to First Job
Farm Prontera Fields on Porings and Lunatics. Hit Job Level 10, visit Prontera to change jobs, and allocate your first skill points immediately.

  2. Days 3–4: Payon Forest Push
Relocate to Payon Forest targeting Spores and Willows within your five-level range. Burn your daily combat attempts here to drive your Job Level toward 40.

  3. Day 5: Second Job Transition
Complete your Job Level 40 advancement quest at the Prontera trainers. Equip Saint gear if available for the 30% EXP bonus and refine your main weapon.

  4. Days 6–7: Mid-Game Farming
Deploy your character to Glast Heim Outskirts for Feros or Clock Tower 1F for Punks and Black Witches. Use the native Offline Battle system to exhaust your daily attempt pool on these high-yield spawns.
